Ex Windows Now running Linux Mint

Post by Möbius »

Hello all.

Today I booted up my machine and a black screen popped up............

The information provided was this;

Phoenix Secure Core Tech TM
Copyright 1985 - 2014 PH Tech Ltd
All rights Reserved For Evaluation. Not For Resale

Firmware # ******** (V2.01) Bios

My machine is running great! But I am wondering why I got this message upon boot?

This machine was Windows 8.1 then 10 but was given a clean install of Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon, Rosa if that is any help.

I can't seem to find any help on the web, so first stop is the family and possibly the Mint Forum later.

I found this:
http://www.phoenix.com/pages/phoenix-securecore-tm
Security: Phoenix SecureCore includes StrongROM, an embedded cryptographic engine, which allows authentication of the firmware itself. StrongROM can alternatively complement a TPM 1.2 chip in a system to further enhance device security. Phoenix SecureCore provides a secure root of trust that can authenticate operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows Vista. It also provides for multi-factor biometric authentication to verify the identity of a user prior to any operating system being loaded.
The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me.

:icon_arrowu: I really do not understand what it is just yet, but I am looking into it :noexp: :book:
Now that you have provided me with the above link Pantheon
I shall delve into this and try to make some sense of it

and this article too..........looks promising

Hopefully to our benefit, rather than against.............

if i remember correctly Phoenix writes the code that executes the Hardware Initialization (controls the power on sequence)

as for why you got a popup...did you change any settings in the bios?

Aha, yes I did. :)

Do you suppose the script for power management for the Realtek WiFi card could have caused this?

If I remember correctly, I was having an issue with the laptops connection to the internet and switched off the "auto sleep" thing which was causing drop outs.

But, I've never run into this notification since then..............
