Hey all !! hope your all doing ok !!

So i have just been testing this fairly new linux distribution called Linux lite, and i have to say its very nice. It runs very smooth and all i had to install to make it a distribution i can use everyday was skype (easy), xfcburn (easy) and transmission (easy). It has steam for linux pre installed, it has libre office pre installed, VLC, GIMP image editor, etc etc... also it comes with scripts that allow you to easily download extra software directly from the "start menu", such as: vitrual box, wine, torrent software

so far the only down side i can find for the novice is the fact it uses Synaptic Package manager rather then the usual software center, but within 5-10min even a linux novice should be able to figure it out (or just check a tut on installing via the terminal).

It's running very smoothe on my netbook (which is pretty old) and up to now the only issue i had was the fact the LIVE didn't wan't to work for me, so i had to install to test it...

I installed it (2x) in a dualboot environment with win7. It had a couple of issues. Neither install would allow me to login automatically even though I checked the box, nor would it allow me to configure it to do so after the install. Plus without a keyring password nearly everything you do requires you to type one in. I got sick of the password issues and after repartitioning my win7 parts (so that it had more room), it would see the win7 install but would not boot to it, only to itself. Too bad they never give you the option of removing or installing stuff during the install process. It does have other nice features such as the video driver install gui though.

that sounds like a very annoying issue indeed !! i wouldn't have found that as i never use auto login (home folder encryptions is not possible by default if used) and i prefer having to input password for most things as it means an added layer of security.

I actually used grub doctor off of a salineOS 2.0 dev disc to try and fix the boot issue but apparently when you repartition AFTER you install grub with both os's installed, it's impossible for grub doctor to fix it. Linux is secure enough to begin with but by using a keyring, you avoid having to put the same pass in umpteen times during one session. Having to input a password every time I want to install or remove something is tedious to say the least. Mediainfo has 4 deb's so that means typing the same pass 4 times just to get one program working. I liked it because it has all the latest stuff and I could run wally (wallpaper mgr) with ease. Plus i have an older desktop pc and didn't want to bog it any more than it is with encryption. On a badass laptop I would have done so for sure.

It is a topchoice if I were to install linux again. As it is now with just my remaining win7 install (I ntfs'd the linux parts), I have to run hiren's 15 v2 boot disc and select the Boot From First Hard Drive entry because I have no idea how to get rid of grub without reinstalling which I am loath to do (again).

sure we dont usually want to be root but if you know what your doing it isn't realy a problem...
