Linux Os's

I have been testing a few Linux Os's

Fedora 12 and 14
Mint
Ubuntu 10
opensuse
macpup

Which do you like the best and why ??

Each edition has it's good and bad points

well ubuntu is a great OS to have together with Wine : easy to use and great support

Fedora and Red Hat is my favorite but i cant put my finger on why

if your looking for help in which is the best ... it depends on what you want it for. In this case i would recomend building your own distro, check out linux from scratch.

I love Mint and Opensuse. I do not use Linux OS's anymore because of their undocumented errors and lack of improvements on important features specifically offline installing of applications and difficult in networking.

I'm just finding that some of the commands in linux are unusual .....I suppose coz i'm used to windows

I setup fedora 14 (the newest version) but I couldn't get it to recognise the modem that I am using ....it tried to setup its driver but no luck

Anyway i'm just testing these for low end machines that I have

I really like Toorox. It was just updated and when running from a live dvd it gives you the option to install to usb with persistence and or encryption. The current flavor is gnome but there are kde versions that are a little older as well. I love the default widgets that come with the kde version below, and it recognizes and can mount ntfs drives for linux noobs like myself easily.

I've used Mint 8 ,,, and i really find it great,, i use it when am having trouble in my windows OS,, the only bad thing i found about Linux is that its not supportive to all windows games......

Dream looks cool. I am mostly only interested in distros that can install to usb with persistence. But even that requires that I unplug my printers and my eboostr flash drive just to get it to boot to the usb distro. If I had another pc I'd be running linux fulltime but my majicjack requires a windows box. The only other way for me to try linux distros is with virtualbox and if the distro does not easily and simply mount my ntfs drives I delete it. All my drives are sata including my dvdrw and if the distro does not easily mount them I give up. With just a single core 3.07ghz cpu and 2 gigs ddr2 (533fsb) even running virtual box is not that easy for me.
I'm downing the beta version of dream now so I can spin it up later.
Toorox is interesting as at the boot screen you can specify screen size and video type. I have an nvidia card so by tabbing to the proper line I can edit it to say video=nv giving me just the right screen size and drivers at boot. Knoppix is awesome as a bootloader.

I am running all the linux Os's as live cd/dvd.......all you need to do is set your computer to boot from the cd/dvd drive and select live from the menu

I am using Elements at the moment as a live cd and posting this message and screen shot without it being installed
