linux is definitly a good OS. its fun to mess around on and can teach you some pretty cool stuff that you can apply to windows.
i would recommend a OS called Ubuntu because its easier to obtain. i will PM you the link. the latest ubuntu release will run on your computer just choose x86 or x64. linux is a really cool OS but hardly any windows or mac programs will be compatable even with an emulator.

That is true, but there are lots of Linux programs equivalent to the ones that are used on Windows/Mac, and they are easily obtainable :)

What i would suggest is running a few distros in VM ware or Virtualbox to get used to them, then possibly setting up a dual boot.

Linux Mint and Ubuntu are 2 of the easiest, but you mind find something to your liking on distrowatch

Distrowatch is the best place to download Linux Os's ........Most you can run as a live cd/dvd ...so you don't have to run virtual machine

Just make sure that when you download a copy that it is live cd/dvd.....these can also be installed .......Make sure your computer boots cd/dvd drive first (in bios settings) pop the live cd/dvd into your computer and let it boot from the cd /dvd

virtual machine has to share resources with windows so you will loose some speed etc

Hope this helps :)
